LDD Sets

Warning

This is an outdated version of this page, preserved so that any links don't break. It is no longer updated with new sets or to correct errors. The up-to-date version of this page can be found here.

Below, you can find a selection of LEGO® Education sets, with all the parts laid out in LEGO® Digital Designer. This could be useful for a number of purposes, including designing things from parts in each set without physically having the set, or if you want to model something you've built from a set in LDD without having to go hunting for parts.

You are free to use these files however you like, create derivitave works, etc. I ask only that if you publish them or a derivitave work, you credit me with a link back to this page.

Table of Contents

Mindstorms Sets

Note that the rechargable battery pack adds an additional unit to the height of the NXT and EV3 bricks. The models of the bricks in LDD show the bricks in their shorter configuration, using AA batteries, so you'll have to keep this in mind when modeling the NXT or EV3 bricks in LDD.

EV3 Core Set (45544)

Download EV3_Core_45544.lxf

EV3 Expansion Set (45560)

Download EV3_Expansion_45560.lxf

There is also a combined file, which includes both the EV3 Core (45544) and Expansion (45560) sets in a single .lxf file.

EV3 "Commercial"/"Toy" Set (31313)

Download EV3_Retail_31313.lxf

NXT Base Set (9797)

Download NXT_Base_9797.lxf

NXT Resource Set (9695)

Download NXT_Resource_9695.lxf

There is also a combined file, which includes both the NXT Base (9797) and Resource (9695) sets in a single .lxf file.

NXT "Commercial"/"Toy" 2.0 Set (8547)

Download NXT_Retail_2point0_8547.lxf

WeDo Sets

These sets include motors where appropriate, but no sensors or hubs, since as far as I can tell those elements aren't in the LDD catalog.

WeDo "1.0" Construction Set (9580)

Download WeDo_9580.lxf

WeDo "1.0" Resource Set (9585)

Download WeDo_Resource_9585.lxf

WeDo 2.0 Core Set (45300)

This file includes the old "1.0" Power functions M-motor in place of the WeDo 2.0 motor. As far as I can tell the WeDo 2.0 motor is not a part listed in LDD at the time I write this. I'm reasonably certain that the two motors are the same size, but I've never actually handled a WeDo 2.0 set. If I'm wrong, please let me know.

Mechanical Sets

Simple Machines Set (9689)

Download Simple_Machines_9689.lxf

Simple and Motorized Mechanisms Base Set (9686)

(name for some reason changed from "Simple and Powered Machines Base Set")

Download Simple_Motorized_9686.lxf

For several years, there was a typo on this page that caused the link to download the Simple_Motorized_9686.lxf file to instead link to an image of that file. This was unfortunate, but it meant that occasionally I'd get an email from someone who used these files, notifing me of the error, whereupon I'd send them a direct link to the file. It was always nice to hear from someone who found use in something I did. So for a while I kept "forgetting" to correct the link. I've now corrected the link, and my new policy is this: If you make use of these files, if you have a suggestion for another set I should include on this page, or if you just want to say hello, you are welcome (though by no means required) to drop me an email using the "contact" link above or lego@johnholbrook.us. I always enjoy hearing from people who use these files and any other resources on this site.
